Like I said the herd mentality.
Step 1. Coolness and formation of herd mentality. What is this coolness? In my view, (Perhaps I'm in no position 2 say) its following what a idol, or a person to look up to does. This is then bended because the idol becomes followed not for the character and admirable virtues of success but cosmetic looks and all. Then its bended further when the people follow the most disgusting of people (and luckily they don't learn from their character but their looks or it will be worse). Then person A follows star X and crowd B follows person A= Ta daah! herd and/ or new 'cool' trend.
Step 2. The rule of coolness>School Rules This cosmetic trend then forgets its roots and the herd which accepted it then takes it as a rule and must have it all the time :see the anke socks from school socks problem.
But what is the rationale with ankle socks? Is it used 2 worship the devil so we can't wear it?

Its doesn't look nice. Its unsightly, even. Still no idea why people like them. And most importantly, the ACS socks are now part of our uniform, further enforcing that rule.
I reckon that if a person misses one part of uniform, then the whole school might just be allowed to come in home clothes. We should be proud of our uniform, as its individual to ACS only, and an important form of identification from other schools.
We are unique.

...s heard one of Statlin/ Mao Zedong's speeches?
Sounds like that right? So much propoganda. Unsightly? Thats your opinion not for anyone to say. Socks aren't meant 2 be seen anyway. Miss 1 part of uniform then the whole school comes in home clothes? Thats quite a good idea but why would people waste 5 minutes of their lives everyday making sure they have everything on their uniform? Its a total time waster compared to coming to school in whatever we want. Tell me... what is so good about the uniform?

I agree with Chestee's point. Just a note, minesweepermaster you are not weak and you are much fitter than me F.Y.I and prefects pump INHUMANLY,RUTHLESSLEY,HEARTLESSLEY I think the aim of the camp should not be to separate the strong from the weak but instead TO PROMOTE INHUMANESS TO OUR FELLOW STUDENTS

Firstly, when you walk around just outside school, how do you identify ACSians? On first sight, the uniform! the dark blue berms have been the ACS tradition for many years. We are not going to change just because some.......says that its ugly etc...
Secondly, ankle socks suck because 1. They were made for girls 2. Socks are meant to be seen 3. Just because 1 person says its coll doesn't mean you have to agree 4. Even now, you dun hav to agree with the public that ankle socks are cool 5. Ankle socks , from afar, looks as if you are not wearing socks and imagine all our ministers wearing ankle socks! A perfect disaster 6. Some shoes can be uncomfortable and if the ankle socks are too low, gg...

freak u people i got too many things to say but i shall take it not one step at a time but one person at a time number chester u say that when i go up to KJ or Chong i do it the soft way firstly that is the only way u wanna book someone u tell them the offence they comitted and book them secondly i di not say that that was the soft way i said i tried the soft way on the yr 1s and not on people who dun bring badge or tie okay? second point u say CHESTER CLEARS THE BIN WOWWWWWWW like any 1 does that so ur point completely gone also CHESTER CLOSES THE CAP OF THE BOTTLE also like real only happens when i win this debate and also u keep saying CHESTER only u do it lar how bout the rest of the school also i created the story and ur concept is not a concept its supposed to be example okay? third point we book u for not bringign tie and badge the reason y we book u is because 95% of the school remember to bring unlike SOME PEOPLE so what happens to the 5% let them off??? if u were part of the 95% would u feel like u dun wanna wear also if u dun get punished anyway. over here many might think then y not abolish uniforms? no. 1 wads the use of UYOs then and no.2 dun talk to me talk to DR ONG and MOE also do u think that next time when u work u can wear any type of thing u become and teacher and u wear anything u like u become minister of something u wear anything u like no.1 they are instilling discipline and order like Xave said no.2 u dun bring hw u get wad? scolded by teacher which is equivalent to a boooking by a prefect also u say bookings will SLOWLY accumulate into detention and blah blah blah mind u it takes just 3 bookings u say its not like they want to PURPOSELY not bring their tie climb into our skin and walk around in it ull find that people actually do that then i think this is the last....... for example like u forget to bring ur badge or lose it u noe ur not gonna get book u probably say dun care lah the the next few days u also wil say dun care lah then the next few months next few years and next few lives also say dun care lah ok i dn feel like typin anymor

Nat. speak in english. noone could understand that freakishly long and grammatically horrible sentence, thus the defeaning silence. I think his point is basically this. If you bring food / drinks back. You say you wouldn't spill. But you spill. You say can throw in the bin. but its emptied at an average of 1t/t (time / term)
Well, questioning prefects is indirectly questioning the teachers who assigned them and in extension Dr. Ong himself. i dont think you would complain if doctor ong scolded you?
Well, if they DIDNT punish you. What would happen? Well, its kinda obvious right? This is called NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT. the act of punishment if something goes wrong. Unlike POSITIVE reinforcement which involves either a reward or taking away a privellege, humans TEND to remember pain / hurt / discomforts more, thus negative reinforcement works way better. Positive reinforcement has already been used, but people just kept littering. Thus, the no food rule. Although i dont see the prob when ppl like me just take the food, eat outside class and sac, but throw in a big dustbin which is cleared by the cleaners. i mean, that's fine if you ask me. not class dustbin. That one is as dirty as a Caleb at night in a dog kennel (female dogs)

Look at it yourself, write down your feelings, and get any other random guy to look at it, or you look at it yourself with an open mind. If you cant take it just say so. If it were so inhuman, then i dont see why theyre organising so many stuff for us, taking care of the school, helping teachers, trying to get us to abide the rules, suffer by getting privelleges taken away (no soccer and must wear ties). If you think everything in life is all just fair, fun and games, hunky dory, up to you, you're sadly mistaken. Things do NOT go according to your will. Period. There's always a bigger fart out there who controls majority of your life. So stop complaining and be tough instead of cursing them. In fact. Consider this. Would you be strong, if not for the people who trained you up from when you're weak? Think about it. What would an army Major be without training and pumping all from a private. What would a scientist be without years of studying and extra remedials and sweat from teachers. What would the student body be without prefects or council? What would YOU be, without the school. Ask yourself. Eventually you'll get the answer. As i said somewhere before. you will understand when you get more insight. and you'll defenitely understand loads more when you get a gf. I know i did. and it made me stronger.

quoting from TinTin
I think the aim of the camp should not be to separate the strong from the weak but instead TO PROMOTE INHUMANESS TO OUR FELLOW STUDENTS
i say again the main aim was to test ur inner strength and not physical strength they r trying to see how much u want to become a prefect and to what extent u would do it not jus separating the weak from the strong i didnt noe my grammer was dad bad

Quoting Chestee
Nope.
Not that simple.
Only Chester.
The smell from your drink already diffused into the air.
How often does that happen?
You didn't see it. Remember the bloody thingyroaches in the class last year?
2.also u say UYOs and detention and whatevr instill discipline but bookings no one cares but in the first place, bookings make u get detention demerits and finally expelled from school
Your mindset.
Good for you.
Its a reminder. Those students actually bother to remember our faces.
Its a reminder. Those students actually bother to remember our faces.
So we remind them.
We remind them.
3 times. Repeat offenders either are stupid, or they just don't care.
Nope.
They don't need to. It'll happen anyway.
There is only a hard way when you hit 3/5/7 bookings.
Assholes forget to bring their uniform. Thats soft. You don't go for immediate cannings by just forgetting once.
Its not our problem if you are having a bad day.
You expect us to just ignore them and their offenses after they shout at us? We have disciplinary rules to abide by. Its not just about YOU.
I just did.

ARGH! Too many points to rebut!!!!!! Lemme see where to start... I'll start from the first rebuttal after my last post. Post#33- I agree that we are unique, that the school socks are part of the school uniform and that we should wear them. But just a question- What is the rationale behind ankle socks!? Not that i mind wearing higher socks, but just very curious. Post#37- 1.They were made for girls- Funny, that seemed like a d**n old story, but that that actually stop men frm wearing it? No i guess, for millions of ppl all over the world are wearing it, and they are not just girls. I emphasize the point that i am just curious and want a suitable answer for this question. Here's my evidence-Toe socks came into popularity in the 1970s and made a comeback in the 1990s as a novelty item worn by adolescents. These later socks are usually almost knee high, striped, and sometimes worn with flip-flops to make a fashion statement. By 2004 they were available in plain colours and being adopted as normal footwear.- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toe_socksToe socks are known as ankle socks. Got lots more to rebut but i have to shut down now!!! I'll modify this tmrw. Last modify-9.44pm

Post#33- I agree that we are unique, that the school socks are part of the school uniform and that we should wear them. But just a question- What is the rationale behind ankle socks!? Not that i mind wearing higher socks, but just very curious. The fact that standardization in terms of uniform is important, our principal was upset over the huge number of students wearing inappropriate socks (not just ankle socks) that he requested actual ACS socks. The decision of the socks actually were specified by each individual school. Other schools actually have a rule: black shoes, black socks every day. Every school wants their students to look fresh, look smart, and look appropriate at the same time. There is one thing that many people agree with, though. Ankle socks, though set out as a fashion statement, look terrible with a formal shirt, shorts and especially, a tie. Honestly (just my opinion, there are many disagreements around the world), people look naked without proper footwear and socks covering their ankle. Ankle socks, even though they feel like socks, don't even look like socks at all. You can't even see them!
